LEGAWEIC, WALTER (1916-2011)

Walter Legawiec was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island in 1916 and has lived in Mountainside for the last 50 years. Walter was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II.
He was a graduate of Juilliard School of Music and was a violinist and composer. He received a commendation from the Vatican for his composition “Easter Vigil” set to the poetry of Pope John Paul II. Walter was a member of the Polish Cultural Foundation in Clark.
He died in 2011 and was predeceased by his wife Eleanor and is survived by their sons Loren and Stephen along with two grandchildren.
