ZÁMEČNÍK, EVŽEN (1939-2018)
Evžen Zámečník (born February 5, 1939 in Frýdek, in the Moravian Moravian-Silesian Region) was a Czech composer, conductor and musician. He studied from 1956 to 1961 violin and composition at the Conservatory in Brno, Czech Republic. At the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, he completed his studies in composition with Kapr. In 1968 he graduated with the Einakt Opera The Posse by Zuber. By means of a scholarship, he furthered his studies in composition from 1968 to 1970 at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich at Günter Bialas, and finally with Jiří Dvořáček at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague from 1974 to 1979, The Orchestra of the Janíček Opera and State Philharmonic Orchestra of Brno in the few years he played violin.
In 1982 he founded the Brno Brass Band, a chamber ensemble, whose music director and conductor he was, and for which he created numerous compositions. With his vast international experience, he was also a much sought-after jury member for composition and orchestra contests at home and abroad.
His compositional style is often characterized by great playfulness, the joy of life, the originality of musical expression, sometimes with a great deal of humor, insight and recession. He was a very industrious and prolific author, whose work includes both orchestral and vocal, chamber music, many of whose compositions are intended for symphonic brass and brass orchestras. Other important works include his children's opera.
