SUTTON, HITOMI (b. 1956)

Hitomi Sutton is a composer, arranger, and music educator who was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1956. She began taking piano lessons when she was three years old. Her first composition was at the age of 17 for which she appeared on NHK television, Japan’s national public broadcasting organization. One of the judges made her promise she will continue to compose and never to stop writing music. It left a lifelong impression on her heart.
 
She received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, Japan and a Master of Music in Music Education from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.
 
As a music educator, she has been teaching many years in Missouri public schools and has taught piano lessons. Also, she was a church organist, pianist, and accompanist for choirs. She has performed numerous piano solos and accompanied several musical productions.
