STREJC, PETR (b. 1987)

Czech composer Petr Strejc was born on the 30th of May, 1987 in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, into a musical family as the the son of Eva and Martin Strejc. In 1992-2002, he attended School of Arts, where he gained the basic skills of playing the violin. From 2002-2008 he attended conservatory in Pardubice and focused on violin performance. However, in 2005, he began to be drawn to music composition as well and he began to write music. His graduation was based on a concert and graduate thesis which focused on life and work of Jiří Strejc, composer, organist, choir master and his grandfather.
 
In 2010-2013, he studied at the University of Hradec Králové in the college of education and violin performance. After the death of his grand-father Jiří Strejc, he finally decided to seriously study composition and to become a composer. Consequently, he began to study at the Conservatory of Music in Prague entering the composition class of Mgr. Jiří Gemrot.
