ROSS, MICHAEL
Michael Ross, Wind Ensemble conductor, is Director of Bands at Appleton West High School. Under his direction, the bands at Appleton West High School have been invited to perform at the Wisconsin State Music Convention in Madison, Wisconsin, the International Band Festival in Lucca, Italy and have done concert tours in Italy, Germany, France, England and Greece.
Mr. Ross was appointed conductor of the Green Bay Youth Symphony in the spring of 2005, and Manager of Education Programs of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra in fall of 2011.
Ross has completed a two-year term as president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. He was inducted into the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) in the summer of 1999 and is a member of the National Band Association (NBA) and Phi Mu Alpha. He has worked with bands and percussion sections throughout Wisconsin and Michigan as a clinician and guest conductor.
Mr. Ross is the Principal Timpanist with the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1976. He performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra from 1976 to 1981 and played percussion with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra as an extra from 1975 to 1985.
Ross received a bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University in 1976, and earned a master's degree in music education with an emphasis in conducting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
