HALLETT, TORRIN J. (b. 1995)
Torrin J. Hallett was born on May 17, 1995 at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He has been composing since he was fourteen years old. His first composition, "Deputy's Day (In the Ol' West)" received an honorable mention in the Wisconsin School Music Association's 2010 student composer competition. Since, he has received training from Milwaukee-area composition mentors Julie Brandenberg, Adam Murphy, and Dan Maske through the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra's John Downey creation project. His first published work, a horn duet titled "Marathon," was published by Alliance Publications, Inc. when he was 16 years old. Torrin is currently studying composition and horn performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he has studied composition privately with Lewis Nielson and Grammy Award-winning composer Stephen Hartke and studies horn with Roland Pandolfi.
While in high school in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Torrin was the winner of concerto competitions and featured soloist with the Oconomowoc High School Wind Symphony, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Youth Wind Ensemble, the Oconomowoc American Legion Band, the Oconomowoc Community Choir, and the Oconomowoc Music Club. Torrin regularly performs in churches in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Dousman, Wisconsin, and Oberlin, Ohio.
