GOODCHILD, MARY ANTIONETTE (1873-1945)
Sister Mary Antoninette Goodchild, OP (born 1873; died 1945) was a Dominican Sister from Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, gifted as a musician and music educator. She taught school music in many elementary schools in Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois and Kansas. Visitation High School in Chicago and Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois, were the last educational institutions at which she taught. She studied public school music programs completing her M.A. from Columbia University in New York in 1935 and played a significant role in educating school music teachers among the Sinsinawa Sisters and published a course of study in music for the Chicago and Minneapolis schools. In 1944, Ginn & Company published her little blue chant book entitled, Gregorian Chant for Church and School widely used in many parish schools. She composed three songs for treble choirs: "Ave Maria," "Sub Tuum," and "Memorare."
