Bob Bruce Ashton, born January 2, 1921, Omaha, Nebraska, but grew up in nearby Lorton, NE. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Peru State College in NE and a Master of Arts degree from Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, MO. Additional graduate work was done at Nebraska University, Omaha University, Colorado University, University of Missouri and Denver University.
Bob Ashton began his professional musical career as a K-12 music instructor in both instrumental and vocal music in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, and Missouri schools. For 14 years, he taught in Summerscape, a gifted education program at Drury University and 4 years at the graduate level in creative writing at Drury. For 2 years, he taught music composition at Southwest Missouri State University using a self-written text published by Mel Bay Publications. He also organized and conducted the Omaha Civic Music Association for 8 years.
Ashton has been a professional pianist for over 50 years, including Branson, Missouri, for the last 8 years.
As a composer with over 800 works including two plays, five books, and various music compositions published by Word, Lexicon, Stylist, Lillenas, Mel Bay, Hal Leonard and Alliance Publications, Inc, and recorded by nationally known artists including The King Sisters, the Ralph Carmichael Singers and Orchestra, Al Alberts of the Four Aces, and Peanuts Hucko. Bob Ashton has received numerous awards for his life\s endeavors> in 1972, he was received into the Songwriters Hall of Fame< 20 songs have been nominated for Grammy Awards< he was voted by bus tour patrons of Branson as the ||Branson Entertainer of the Year in 2003\\< in 1955, he was listed in Who\s Who in American Education, and in 1942, he was listed in Who\s Who Among North American Students.
Bob Ashton lives a varied life and enjoys playing golf in addition to his piano, basketball, travelling and has participated in the Senior Olympics having achieved 41 medals by 2004.
Ashton is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, The National Academy of Popular Music, the American Guild of Authors and Composers, and the American Federation of Musicians.
His creative juices continued to flow till his death on November 14, 2006. Throughout his life, Bob Ashton enjoyed providing music students in the schools with quality literature for study, concerts, festivals, church-community functions.
