BACKHAUS, PATRICIA

Dr. Patricia Backhaus is the Music Director of the Milwaukee Festival Brass (a British style brass band) since 2004 and the new Milwaukee Festival Youth Brass (2009). Pat is also the conductor of The Studio Orchestra in Madison, Wisconsin (2008); the Shorewood Concert Band (2005) during the summer and is the founding director of the Soli Deo Gloria Brass (2002).

 

She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts (1986) from and the Master of Music (1983) degrees from the University of Minnesota. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is from Carroll College (now University) in Waukesha, Wisconsin. She was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda at Minnesota and she is a National Arts Associate of Sigma Alpha Iota.                                  

 

Pat was born in Milwauke, Wisconsin and lives on the historic near south side of the city. Pat has an international reputation as a coronetist soloist and as a band history scholar.  She has had numerous articles published in journals around the world.  Recently she has been asked to contribute an analysis of the Martinů trumpet concerto to the International Trumpet Guild Journal for a new column that is being edited by one of her former students, Bryan Proksch.
